Job Summary
As a Jail Intake Officer, you will play a crucial role in the intake process of individuals entering the facility. You will be responsible for assessing, processing, and documenting inmate information in a timely manner. This position not only requires you to keep accurate records but also demands a level of empathy and professionalism when interacting with individuals in distressing circumstances.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct intake interviews and assessments of newly incarcerated individuals.
- Gather and document personal information, including criminal history and medical conditions.
- Perform risk assessments to determine the appropriate housing placement.
- Coordinate with medical and mental health staff to ensure the well-being of inmates.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records within our correctional software systems.
- Assist in the orientation process of new inmates, explaining facility rules and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with law enforcement, legal representatives, and other departmental staff.
- Respond to emergencies and provide assistance as needed within the facility.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who possess a combination of the following qualifications and attributes:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, or a related field preferred.
- Prior experience in corrections, law enforcement, social services, or related fields is advantageous.
- Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
- Proficient in crisis intervention and conflict resolution techniques.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in high-stress situations.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
Working Conditions
This position requires working in a controlled environment, which may include exposure to potentially hostile situations. Jail Intake Officers must be able to stand or walk for extended periods and may be required to lift or move individuals or equipment as part of emergency responses.
